Contest of Short Films on Gender Issues

(Gender Shorts Night)

February – September 2011

 


1. Background

The promotion of education without gender bias and integration of gender knowledge and gender sensitivity into the educational system is considered as one of the aims of the Equal Opportunities and Women’s Rights in Ukraine Programme. The expected general output of realization of this component of the Programme is ensuring the system of education is free of gender biases and stereotypes, gender-balanced information is provided in programmes, textbooks and education curricula.

 

The implementation of the Programme within this Component covers:

·        support to introduction of a pedagogical methodology on gender standards for teachers of secondary and high schools of Ukraine;

·        building capacity of teachers in overcoming gender biases in education and integrating gender knowledge and gender sensitivity in the system of education of Ukraine;

·        facilitating of introducing gender sensitivity in the Ukrainian society through education system.

 

Recently Ukraine demonstrated its support to the elimination of gender inequality in the national education system through the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities of Women and Men” and in the tasks of the State Programme of Ensuring Gender Equality in Ukrainian Society 2010.

 

In this regard the Programme contributed in sharing gender knowledge and gender sensitivity through holding contest of short films on gender issues.

 

 

2. Objectives

§         To conduct contest and select best short films on gender issues;

§         To present short films to wider audience.

 

 

3. Expected results

§         The Contest is conducted and best short films on gender issues are selected;

§         Short films are presented to wider audience.

 

 

4. Date of the events: February – September 2010.

 

 

5. Location: Ukraine and abroad

 

 

6. Contest for the Best Short Film on Gender Issues:

 

(1)         To participate in the Contest of short films on Gender issues Ukrainian nationals and foreigners are invited (only natural persons).

(2)         Requirements to the film:

·         Duration: up to 5 minutes;

·         Language: Ukrainian or English, otherwise Ukrainian or English subtitles are required;

·         Format: .avi, 1440x1080 pixels;

·         Film should be in accordance with Ukrainian legislation and UN regulations on gender equality.

(3)         Nominations of the contest: “5 minutes for Gender Equality”; “5 minutes for Gender Violence Prevention”, “5 minutes to Win Spectators”[1]. All short films participate in competition “5 minutes to Win Spectators” decided by votes of spectators. Participation in other nominations is a decision of an applicant indicated in application.

(4)         By sending official application participants agree to provide all rights for showing and distribution of the film to the UNDP Ukraine

(5)         The application (Appendix 1) is to be sent to Equal Opportunities and Women’s Rights in Ukraine Programme (20 Esplanadna Str., office 709, Kyiv 01601, Ukraine) and should be accompanied with CD / DVD disc containing the film.

(6)         All documents should be submitted in Ukrainian or English till 20 September 2011.

(7)         The qualification for the contest is provided by Equal Opportunities and Women’s Rights in Ukraine Programme.

(8)         Starting from 1 July 2011 all short films will be posted on web-site for Internet spectators’ voting.

(9)         The Selection Committee Consists of 15 persons:

·         3 representatives of EOWR Programme;

·         5 representatives of partner ministries;

·         2 representatives of the UNDP, of which one is Chair;

·         2 representatives of the EU Delegation to Ukraine;

·         3 public persons.

(10)     The Selection Committee provides evaluation during Gender Shorts Night on 30 September 2011.

(11)     The evaluation in nominations “5 minutes for Gender Equality”; “5 minutes for Gender Violence Prevention” is provided by summing results of the relevant fields of the evaluation form (Appendix 2) filled by members of the Selection Committee.

(12)     The evaluation in nomination “5 minutes to Win Spectators” is provided by spectators vote via Internet and on Gender Shorts Night by filling in the relevant questioner (Appendix 3) in proportion 50% for Internet voting to 50% for Gender Shorts Night spectators voting.

(13)     The winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd place) in nominations “5 minutes for Gender Equality”; “5 minutes for Gender Violence Prevention” and the winner in nomination “5 minutes to Win Spectators” should be announced on Gender Shorts Night on 30 September 2011.

(14)     The diplomas “Best Gender Script”, “Best Operator’s Work and Visual Effects”, “Best Performance” are granted to the best short films by the scoring of the Selection Committee in relevant fields of the questioner (Appendix 2).

Scoring rule: The place in Internet voting will be summed with place in voting of spectators on Gender Shorts Night. The candidate with the smallest sum will win in nomination. In case of equal sum the best film will be decided by the voting of the Selection Committee.
